On the Podere Guardia Grande estate, we produce wines that express the character of the local area

The richness of the soil, the climate and the closeness to the sea all contribute to the distinctive character of our wines, with aromas of herbs, flowers and berries. We love wines that have a strong connection with the local area; wines that have a story to tell. Saldenya, Nascimento and L’Alghè are upfront, polished wines, with a distinct, refreshing minerality.

Saldenya

Vermentino di Sardegna DOC

In the Alghero dialect, Saldenya means Sardinia, and the sound recalls the froth atop the waves of the sea, driven by the Mistral wind, which settles on the grapes, giving them their unmistakable, almost salty flavour. The rich sea breeze rises up every day at noon, bringing the aroma of the waves to the wine produced on Podere Guardia Grande.

The sea that separates Sardinia from the mainland gives the measure of an identity that has been maintained intact for centuries. The island is a miniature continent that enchants, enamours and commands respect.

Nascimento

Cannonau di Sardegna DOC

The vineyard is a place replete with poetry and existential mystery. Simple things unfold before our eyes, but however obvious, there’s something life-giving behind each apparently everyday event. In the words of Sebastiano Satta, the winemaking process is also a “birth shrouded in mystery”, and when the must ferments “in the night […], the children venture down, half-dressed, into the darkness of the cellar, and remain there for hours listening to that song that will perhaps accompany them throughout their lifetime”.

It comes naturally to associated the cyclical nature of life with the Mother Goddess. In Alghero, the Domus de Janas caves, known as the Fairy Houses, are a testament to the worship of divinities linked to the earth and fertility that is typical of Sardinia. These little caves were home to tiny mythical creatures who tirelessly spun splendid fabrics on their beautiful golden looms, all the while singing sweet melodies.

L'Alghè

Alghero Cagnulari DOC

Alghè is one of the names used to identify the city of Alghero, a place to visit and from which to set out on a voyage of discovery through a world admired in the pages of an atlas, enraptured by the exotic features, colours and names of far-off cities and countries. Stories, languages and journeys blend to form an endless dialogue.

The crystal-clear waters that caress the coasts of Alghero conceal a secret treasure: coral. With its intense red hues, it evokes the most profound of emotions, calling to mind the wild beauty of nature on the island.

In such a genuine place, where the beauty is overwhelming, everyone is immersed in their own time, in an attempt to understand time itself, to live it, not to waste it.
